​​​Three of my favorite desserts are Food for the Gods, Butterscotch, and Fruit Cake, so I endeavored to perfect recipes of them. Many experiments later, I still couldn’t get the taste that I wanted to achieve. One crazy Sunday afternoon, out of frustration, I combined all three recipes. For a twist I replaced the imported fruits with our native ones. To my surprise and delight I finally found what I was looking for! A few “bakings” later, family and friends started to request “that dessert” again and again. To date, we have finally come up with a name – TROPICAL FRUIT BARS, three foreign desserts rolled into one –​ local version. Another ingenuous Pinoy creation of HINAM-IS.​
